A
quick investigation of figures will quickly explain the great
efficiency of wood pellets, (Source Balcas 2005). And remember
that these pellets are made from sawdust and wood chippings -
waste materials. Clearly from the viewpoints of price, waste by-products
and the environment, Wood pellets are by far the very
best solution for your pocket AND the environment. Pellets
offer a genuine WIN-WIN solution for you, your family and the
planet...

These
wood pellets can me delivered manually or via automated silos
to you your heating system. Pellet delivery options include remote
temperature control, remote burner ignition, and a wide selection
of wood pellet storage bin sizes. Wood pellets automatically de-ash
almost all ash through the burner - the very little left can be
used as a high-grade garden fertilizer.
Q Mac offer you wood pellet storage solutions to suit you needs
that are more than efficient - they are investments!
The
ecological advantages of wood pellets
Wood
pellets are considered CO2-neutral. Only as much Carbon dioxide
is set free as the tree consumes during its growth cycle. Also,
less energy is consumed in the process of making Wood pellets,
included transportation, than with conventional fuels such as
oil or gas.
Wood
pellets help to avoid an increase of the greenhouse effect and
thereby protect nature.
Burning
Wood pellets also reduces the output of NOx that is held responsible
for acid rain. The environment benefits.
Wood
pellets are safe to handle and can be transported without a problem.
Hazards, leakages or accidents that happen at the drilling, refining
or transporting oil or gas (with tankers, pipelines) are impossible
with wood pellets.
The
sustainable forestry in ones own country is supported because
native resources are processed. In Europe as a whole the forest
cover is growing at the rate of the size of Cyprus each year.
Wood
pellets are produced by local companies. So they are independent
from the world markets of oil and gas.
Local
communities are supported as regional and employment is increased
and secured.
Following
today’s scientific reports, the rise of temperature caused
by men rooted in the burning of fossil fuels like oil, gas and
coal. The related emission of CO2 together with other greenhouse
gases CO2 absorbs sun light and reduces the reflection of warmth
to space. This effect is comparable to that one in a greenhouse
- so it was named greenhouse effect.
You
can help reducing this greenhouse effect by burning as little
fossil fuels like oil or gas as possible. Heating with wood pellets
does not increase the CO2 amount in the atmosphere. At burning,
pellets only set free the amount of CO2 the tree absorbed in its
growth cycle. It is not important whether wood burns or rots.
The amount of CO2 is in both cases the same.

Representing SILOBAU STEINECKE GMBH
For
fully automatic operation, a silo, fed directly to the boiler
will be required. In the first instance we are providing a simple
solution for direct auger feed from the silo into the boiler.
A solution to allow feeding from a remote silo up to 20 m away
from the boiler is nearing completion.
Home
boilers may burn 3-10 tonnes annually (1.5 to 3 tanks of oil).
A minimum 3.7 tonne silo has been selected as a sensible choice
to hold pellets delivered in bulk as a 3 tonne delivery is the
minimum amount delivered to allow for the best price of 150 Euro/Ton.
Sizes go up from this to match the boiler output.
Filling
by bulk truck will therefore be done once or twice yearly depending
on the size we can accommodate. Custom sizes are easily made from
1.6 to 25 tonnes. The standard UV Silos are the least expensive
option and can be easily installed inside a building, shed, garage,
or basement where space permits. The 3.7 tonne standard model
is 2.3m x 2.3m wide and 2.4m tall for the frame. Space should
also be allowed for the filling tube – an extra 20cm, but
this tube can be fitted into the space of the joists if possible.
As an option the silo can be made taller and go up into the cavity
of the roof, allowing a reduced footprint of 1.65m x 1.65m width
by 3.2m tall to the steel structure. (Extra for filling tube).
This allows for more usable ground space, and the un-used in the
loft area can be used as well. All silos will now come with a
4” filling tube as standard. The bulk truck will connect
with this and deliver the pellets with are exhaustion into the
silo. The air from this process is exhausted out through the fabric.
ABOUT
THE SILO
The
silos are made of a breathable membrane (KISA 80) fabric which
is much like aircraft seatbelt material. This sack is suspended
in a steel frame, the pellets fall to a central point from an
angle of 50 degrees (to prevent bridging) into a pot at which
point they are augured up to a drop point above the boiler. These
silos are made by Silobau Sleinecke in Germany who, having made
over 50,000 silos for the storage of non liquid flowables, and
are considered the experts in this area. These silos have the
following advantages:-
-Condensation
is prevented with a breathable membrane that covers the entire
silo
-All the pellets fall to one pick-up point so that older pellets
are used first avoiding dust and clogging
-The pressure of pellets on the auger screw is minimized by the
shape of the sack which takes the pressure instead, lessening
the wear on the auger motor.
-All dust associated with the pellets is contained in the silo
and not into the immediate environment – an important consideration
when inside.
-The material has low electrical resistance is flame retardant
and mechanically strong. It will last for fifteen years in direct
sunlight – far longer if inside.
-The steel structure specifications have been double load tested
in Ireland
-The silo can be easily checked for quality, emptied and cleaned.
It comes with an inspection port in which pellets can be viewed
or filled by bag, and has an option whereby pellets can be emptied
by manual extraction thus avoiding expensive bag purchases.
-The steel receiving tubes are reverse welded, slow (200mm) curves
that allow the pellets to flow into the centre of the silo without
damage.
These
silos are guaranteed for 10 years, but will last many more years
as experience has shown.
